Mise-en-scene:
1) The image/costume- Johnny Depp in a pirate costume to advertise the theme and/of the movie "Pirates of The Caribbean". Johnny Depp is used as he is the main character in the movie and is a big actor and will attract more people to buy the magazine.
2) Setting- The image is set on a sunny beach with the ocean in the background to represent the theme of pirates at sea making the magazine more colourful and attention attracting as it has bright colours.
3) Font- Stands out and is big and bold to attract peoples attention that are looking for a magazine and shows what the magazine is all about and there are different sizes of the font to show which are more important for example the company.
4) Colours- Including of the font, the use of the colours of red and yellow are big and bold, they also stand out to attract the attention of the people that may notice the magazine.
5) Costume, props and framing- Of the costume and the gun at the setting as it draws all focus of the reader to show them the theme of the movie, the actor and the genre of the movie.
6) Positioning (Framing)- The character is centred straight down the middle of the magazine and covers a majority of the magazine to high light the main key feature and importance of this issue of the magazine.
7) Positioning of other words- The rest of the features that are going to be inside the magazine are located at the lower area of the magazine as people read things from top to bottom, so as they have read the key importance of this magazine they tell you what else inside, for example at the bottom left it highlights two names of Matt Damon and Christian Bale as secondary attractions to the magazine which may also attract the attention of people as they may also like what is on the inside.
8) The title- The company name of the magazine is big and bold and uses different font to the magazine cover. Also the most common colours of font on the magazine are yellow, black and white. The name of the magazine being much bigger, bolder and a different colour then the rest of the fonts makes it a stand out to attract the attention of people that may be potential readers.
9) Connotations-At the very top of the magazine above the name title, there is two words in the centre coloured yellow and two words either side coloured in black. The two words in the centre make it a stand out and the colour yellow gets your attention to the two words as it is big and happy and bright, also the colours red of the magazine has connotations to stay stop and buy this magazine which shows of its importance.
1) The font- The font used on the word "Spectre" is very effective because it is big and bold and grey which could be like the character shown on the cover who is "Daniel Craig" from the "James Bond" franchise.
2) Editing- On the word "Spectre" on the letter "C" editing is used to create a shooting target like effect on a person, which could represent the theme of the movie being an action/spy movie. This is effective because it portrays the kind of movie of what's on the cover is going to be.
3) Lighting by editing- The lighting is effective because it is a use of low key lighting and part of the characters face is shaded. This is effective because it could also tell the reader the theme of the movie that the character is bold and mysterious and unknown like a spy.
4) Framing and positioning- The framing and positioning is useful because he is big and in the centre which could show that he is going to be the main attraction of the movie and because of the low key lighting it could put emphasis to the fact that in the movie if it is a spy movie that he is always hidden in plain sight.
5) Camera shot- The camera shot is useful because it is a mid-close up on the characters face to show of his costume and to portray what the character is all about and it also effective because it again shows the same is the framing that he is the main attraction of the movie and everything else is blanked out to show his significance.
6) Costume- The costume is important because it is a formal outfit, a suit which is a shared convention of spy movies to show they a rich yet hidden and present themselves formally because it makes the reader think about his importance and how rich he is and hides the fact that he is in combat because a suit is not really something you would fight in but perhaps undercover like a spy.
7) Colours- The colours on this are important because the colour of the word "Spectre" the name of the movie is grey which is a very bold colour and could show how bold of a man "James Bond" is. The colours used are also effective because the rest of it is blue to show other features inside the magazine that are important to catch the readers attention.
8) Setting- Although there is no setting and there is just a low key lighting background this could also add to the effect to that this character is a hidden and and he is that secretive and hidden that you do not know his location, friends, family or anything about him for that matter which could also link to the fact of it being a spy movie.
1) The image- From the image it shows really bright colours and it looks futuristic which could portray the fact that it is a sic-fi movie and also because it is very eye catching like sic-fi movies because it looks really advanced.
2) Font- The font is really big yet bright which is really effective because it could also show that is a sci-fi movie because the name of the company logo looks like a scene on an arcade game which could link to the movie.
3) Colours- The colours are really bright
which could also link to the movie being a sci-fi movie because bright colours are often a shared convention of sci-fi movies.
4) Costume and props- The costume is very advanced and looks very high technology and stands out like everything on this film magazine cover which will attract people as it is very eye catching. The helmet is very advanced because it is a see through shield and the top of the helmet shows a reflection as it is shiny which could mean its new which could then link to the science fiction side of the cover.
5) Lighting- The lighting that is used is a stand out because it is high key lighting which is a huge stand out and will attract peoples attention to the film magazine as it is very eye catching and this could also link to the movie on the cover being a science fiction movie because most science fiction movies specifically those of ones set in the future use a lot of high key lighting.
6) Framing and positioning- The framing and positioning is particularly useful in this image because his face is directly in the centre of the film magazine cover which makes him stand out to show he is the main feature of the movie but there is also the positioning of vehicle which is like the foreground of the cover which makes the vehicle seem as though it has a very big relevance to the film.
7) Camera shot- The camera shot is useful on his face as his face is far away it could be a long shot on his face but then a close up on the vehicle to which I think is done/used because it makes it seem that the characters personality is going to be very distant in the movie or potentially the setting.
8) Setting- Again the same as the James Bond poster you cannot really see what the setting is. But if you think as the movie being a science fiction movie the high key lighting gives the magazine cover a science fiction approach. Also the helmet does show a reflection of the path that the character is heading for and it appears to be a really bright road with lights that look like cat eyes but brighter. I think this is used to appeal to the reader as they have not told much about the movie but they want to know more, so this will attract the reader.
